Peltzer Winery Brings a Small Town, Country Feel to Temecula Wine Country

Jul 31, 2018 | Food, Temecula, Wine

Since Shawn and I are from a small farm town in Pennsylvania we were excited to see what Peltzer Farm & Winery was all about. We had done a little research before heading to Temecula for our trip and from what we could tell Peltzer seemed to be one of the most diverse wineries in the area. With the owners having a strong background in farming citrus, pumpkins and pine trees we were curious to see if they were just as good at growing grapes!

Stunning Views and Bold Flavors

Welcome to The Crush House

As we pulled onto the 25 acre property we immediately noticed the rows and rows of grapes lining both sides of the drive. The beautiful barn-like tasting room, called The Crush House, was immediately noticeable on the hill and the families home was perched at the very top of the property.

There were these amazing aged pieces of farm equipment placed around the property and parking lots, which just added to the farm-like feel. Based on the look of everything we had seen before even walking up to and into the tasting room I knew we were in for a treat and I couldn’t wait to get our tour and tasting started.

A Rustic-Chic Paradise

I have to admit, I was immediately amazed with the rustic, industrial design of the entire building – inside and out! Before even walking inside it was hard to miss the perfectly placed outdoor seating areas and the modern, oversized glass doors that lead inside. As soon as I was through the doors I was even more in love! It was clear that every little detail had been considered when designing the property, which was less of a surprise when we found out that the owner, Carrie, is also an interior designer!

The Crush House has high vaulted ceilings, 2 large tasting bars with super cool lighting above, additional indoor seating that can also transition into a very large 3rd tasting bar on weekends, a wide selection of merchandise, a wall full of barrels and an exit to a relaxing covered patio on the side of the building. In addition to being used as the tasting room, The Crush House easily transforms into the perfect space for a wedding reception or private event!

A Truly Unique Wine Tasting Experience

Pairing Delicious Wine with Artisan Breads from a Local Bakery

We were promptly greeted by Danae, the Director of Tours & Wine Education for Peltzer, and we jumped right into our tasting! One thing that we noticed right away is that the staff worked really hard to spend a lot of time with each guest, giving them lots of information about property itself and the wines. We were surprised to learn that Peltzer only produces about 4,000 cases a year, going for quality over quantity.

Another thing that I loved about our tasting was that we received artisan bread samples from a local bakery that paired perfectly with each wine we tried. IT WAS SOOO GOOD – both the wine AND the bread that is!

Exploring The Wine List

We would normally just jump right to the red wines, as those are our favorites, but Danae suggested that we just go down the whole tasting list – from sparking, to whites and finishing with the reds – and I’m so glad we did. The Prosecco was one of our favorites!

Fun Fact: Peltzer Prosecco has a DOCG rating, which is an Italian quality assurance designation for wine and food. To receive this label, a product must adhere to quality assurance rules as well as the location defined in the rules.

To our surprise we actually really enjoyed the white wines as well and would sip on any of them during a warm summer day! We heard many guests raving about the Chardonnay, which we didn’t taste during our tour, so we brought a bottle home with us to try in the near future.

The Barbera, Rustik Red and the Cab Sauvignon were of course some of my favorites! They were all so smooth but each had their own unique taste to them. If you know us, then you already know that we brought home a bottle of each to enjoy!

Unforgettable Experiences

With one-of-a-kind Wedding & Event spaces at Peltzer Family Cellar

If you are looking for a vintage, yet modern wedding venue then Peltzer is the place to say “I do”! Whether you are looking for an indoor ceremony and reception or prefer an outdoor ceremony and celebration, they can accommodate both!

One of the coolest things that you’ll find at Peltzer, that many other local wedding venues don’t offer, is separate spaces, on-site, for both the sides of the bridal party to get ready.

The Bridal Suite

The ladies will get ready in a beautiful suite, with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards. The suite includes a living area, bedroom, full bathroom and outside porch and seating area. The inside was meticulously designed by the owner, Carrie.

The suite is also where the bride and groom can spend the night after their wedding. So they can feel free to stay and drink as much wine as they’d like!

The Groomsmen Suite

The groom and his fellas will get ready on another spot on the property – a super cool retro-looking trailer, with seating and a bathroom. Similar to the Bridal Suite, the Groomsmen Suite is located on the hilltop of Peltzer Family Cellar and shares similar views of the surrounding vineyards.

In addition to hosting weddings, Peltzer also hosts many different events during the year, including many that are family friendly.

For families they host Carnivals, kid-friendly movies in the vineyard, and in the Fall they offer a wide array of fun activities for families who come out to pick pumpkins!

If you are looking to leave the kiddos with a sitter and spend some adult time you might like to visit on a night they have a food truck, on a morning where they offer brunch, or on a day when you pack your own picnic basket and come to enjoy a drink!

The Soccer Stars – Duke & Stella

If by this point you still aren’t convinced that you need to be on your way to Peltzer as soon and quickly as possible, let me just tell you about Duke & Stella! These two furry pups are actually twins – and they are so stinking cute.

During our visit they let themselves into the tasting room to visit and they were so friendly. Duke kicked around a soccer ball like he was a pro-player and Stella quietly followed him around. He loved when someone paid attention and kicked the ball for him to retrieve.

Being pet lovers we were extremely entertained and loved watching every minute of their playtime. After introducing themselves to everyone they quietly made their way back outside to continue mingling with guests, who were all happy to see them!

The next time you are in the area make sure to swing by Peltzer for a truly unique tasting experience….and if you aren’t planning on being in the area anytime soon I suggest heading to their website to add a few bottles to your shopping cart (everything is good so you can’t go wrong even if you are buying them without tasting them first). Peltzer will have you yelling sip, sip, hooray!
